Nigeria and Other Nations to Receive €150 Billion from EU Fund
The European Union (EU) has announced plans to allocate €150 billion over four years to African nations, including Nigeria, through its Global Gateway initiative.
This funding aims to bolster infrastructure development in sectors such as transport, energy, and digital services.
Additionally, the initiative will support improvements in agriculture, health, education, and promote sustainable development and environmental protection.
Massimo De Luca, the Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, revealed this during a media briefing in Lagos. He emphasised that this strategic investment would strengthen connectivity and economic ties between the EU and its African partners.
The funding is part of a broader €300 billion Global Gateway strategy intended to enhance infrastructure and sustainable development across Africa, Latin America, and Asia.
This initiative marks a shift from traditional aid, focusing instead on building long-term economic and infrastructural partnerships.
The EU and its member states remain the largest donor partners to Nigeria, demonstrating their commitment to supporting the country’s development through substantial financial contributions and projects.
