Nigerian Army Shortlists Candidates for DSSC 29/2026 Training
The Nigerian Army has released the names of candidates selected for the Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 29/2026. These candidates should report for officer cadet training as the next step in the recruitment process.
In a public announcement through its official channels, the Army informed applicants and the public that the list of successful candidates is now available on its recruitment portal.
Shortlisted candidates must report for training on Friday, 27 March 2026, at the Officer Cadet Training Wing of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI) in Jaji, Kaduna State.
Reporting Instructions for Successful Candidates
All shortlisted candidates need to arrive at the training venue with specific items for documentation and preparation. Candidates should bring writing materials, original academic credentials, passport photographs, and several personal items.
Required items include plain white short-sleeve vests, royal-blue shorts, white canvas trainers, tracksuits, shirts, trousers, socks, and a dark-colored lounge suit. Candidates should also pack essentials such as a wristwatch, bed sheets, blanket, football boots, and a pressing iron.
Female candidates have extra requirements, including black low-heel cover shoes, lounge skirts, and trouser suits for official events during training.
The Army added that serving military personnel who were shortlisted must bring official release letters. They should also bring passes from their commanding officers.
Warning to Candidates
The Nigerian Army stressed that candidates must follow the reporting schedule closely. Those who do not report on the designated date risk losing their positions to candidates on the reserve list.
Reserve candidates do not need to report immediately, but they may be contacted if openings occur during the reporting period.
Role of the DSSC Programme
The Direct Short Service Commission is one of the ways the Nigerian Army brings graduates and professionals into officer roles. This is especially in specialized areas that support operational and technical functions.
Through the DSSC programme, qualified civilians and serving personnel with professional skills join various corps of the Army, including engineering, medical, education, signals, and electrical and mechanical units.
Military authorities state that this initiative aims to strengthen the officer corps by integrating professionals whose skills are vital for modern military operations and national security.
Nigerian Army Recruitment Process
The DSSC 29/2026 recruitment process began in early 2026 when the Nigerian Army opened applications to eligible Nigerians through its official recruitment portal. The online application targeted qualified candidates from both civilian and military backgrounds.
After the application stage, shortlisted candidates were invited to a selection board exercise. It included screening, documentation checks, and assessments before they were approved for officer cadet training.
This announcement signals a shift for the successful candidates into the training phase. This is where they will receive extensive military and leadership instruction at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry before possible commissioning as officers.
Authorities advised candidates and the public to check the official Nigerian Army recruitment portal to verify the list of successful candidates. Also, to obtain detailed instructions regarding the training exercise.
