Nigerian Soldier Dismissed by Army for Sleeping with Colleague’s Wife

In a notable case of misconduct within the Nigerian military, a soldier, identified as Abdullahi Ismail, has been dismissed from service after being found guilty of engaging in sexual relations with the wife of a fellow soldier. The incident, which occurred at the 231 Battalion in Biu, Borno State, has drawn significant attention due to its serious implications.

The dismissal, confirmed by multiple sources, was enacted after an investigation into Ismail’s actions, which violated the stringent moral and professional standards expected of military personnel. According to reports from SaharaReporters, the Lance Corporal’s actions contravened Sections 79 and 93 of the Armed Forces Act CAP A20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. These sections explicitly address indecent professional misconduct, stipulating severe penalties including imprisonment and dismissal with dishonour for offenders.

One military source expressed relief at the decision, noting, “The soldier was fired from the Nigerian Army for sleeping with his colleague’s housewife. We’re happy as this will serve as an example to others involved in this act now common in our barracks.” Another added, “Our colleague, Abdullahi has been dismissed at 231 BN Biu. He slept with his regular’s wife. So sad.”

This case highlights ongoing issues of sexual indiscipline within the barracks, reflecting the broader challenges faced by military authorities in maintaining discipline and ethical conduct among troops. The strict enforcement of military law in this instance serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of such violations, aiming to deter similar behavior among the ranks.
