NNPC and Marketers Gear Up to Distribute Dangote Fuel Nationwide: What’s Next

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), along with major oil marketers, has announced plans to distribute fuel from the Dangote Refinery across Nigeria.

One of the biggest advantages of this initiative is reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported fuel. The APC Vanguard for Optimum Transparency and Accountability (APC-VOTA) estimates that the country could save ₦24 trillion every year by sourcing fuel locally. This reduction in import costs could strengthen the naira and ease financial pressures on citizens.

This collaboration also promises a better standard of fuel, as locally refined products will reduce dependence on low-quality imports with harmful additives. APC-VOTA noted that this shift could protect Nigerians from substandard fuel often brought in by questionable importers, improving both health and safety.

By utilizing Dangote’s refinery, Nigeria could reduce its longstanding issues with fuel shortages. APC-VOTA commended the initiative as a step toward consistent fuel availability and market stability.

Calls for Additional Refinery Repairs

While APC-VOTA supports this move, they also urge NNPCL’s CEO, Malam Mele Kyari, to repair Nigeria’s other refineries, such as those in Port Harcourt and Warri, which have not been fully operational. The group argues that restoring these refineries is essential to achieve true energy independence.

With this plan underway, the hope is that Nigerians will soon experience greater fuel stability and economic relief. However, lasting improvements may depend on further investment in Nigeria’s refinery capabilities.
