No Escape as EFCC Seizes Travel Documents of Sadiya Umar-Farouk and Betta Edu
In an active move, the EFCC has seized the travel documents of Betta Edu and Sadiya Umar-Farouq, intensifying the financial fraud investigation. This crucial step probes their alleged ministry misconduct.
Undergoing rigorous questioning at the EFCC’s Abuja headquarters, Edu and Umar-Farouq faced tough scrutiny.
Following Edu’s recent suspension, Umar-Farouq’s interrogation commenced on Monday, with Edu’s session starting a day later.
Edu, after more than 10 hours of interrogation, received bail with a daily reporting condition.
Similarly, Umar-Farouq, subjected to a lengthy interrogation, was allowed home but summoned back the following day.
According to Channels TV, ongoing interrogations await both Edu and Umar-Farouq. Edu’s involvement in a scandal began with a leaked document, revealing her alleged diversion of ₦585 million in public funds.
This disclosure led to her suspension by President Bola Tinubu. He has mandated a thorough investigation into all financial activities of the ministry and its agencies.
The EFCC’s strategic seizure of their travel documents aims to mitigate any flight risks, ensuring their presence for ongoing probes.
This step underlines the EFCC’s commitment to tackling cases of financial fraud, especially those involving high-ranking officials.
By taking these measures, the EFCC may well establish new norms for investigating financial misconduct in government circles, marking a strong stand against corruption in Nigeria’s public service.
