Nollywood’s ‘The Uprising: Wives on Strike 3’ Reaches N110 Million in Box Office

Nollywood’s latest hit film, The Uprising: Wives on Strike 3, has taken the Nigerian box office by storm, earning a remarkable N110 million in just three weeks, as of November 10.

Directed by Omoni Oboli, the film builds on the success of the Wives on Strike series and highlights the rising popularity of Nigerian films.

Since opening on October 17, The Uprising has seen steady growth in ticket sales, starting with a strong N28.2 million in its first weekend.

Its momentum continued, adding N40.1 million in the second weekend and N27.2 million in the third. The pre-sale campaign added another N10 million, showing high anticipation for this new installment.

A Fresh Take on a Beloved Series

Since the series first began in 2016, Wives on Strike has won over Nigerian audiences with its mix of humor and social issues.

This third film, however, brings a more serious storyline about a mother’s journey to rescue her kidnapped son.

This darker direction has brought in both loyal fans and new viewers while continuing the series’ focus on important social topics.

With Oboli’s direction, The Uprising explores themes of family, bravery, and sacrifice. The film features popular Nollywood actors such as Uche Jombo, Ufuoma McDermott, Chioma Akpotha, Hilda Dokubo, and others.

Nollywood’s Expanding Reach and Influence

The success of The Uprising shows Nollywood’s growing ability to stand alongside international films in Nigerian theaters.

Its strong performance reflects how Nigerian audiences are increasingly supporting local stories that relate to their lives.

As the Wives on Strike series continues, it shows Nollywood’s ability to take on deeper and more complex stories, showing the world that Nigerian cinema can be both entertaining and thought-provoking.

With this success, The Uprising sets a high standard for future Nollywood films that combine meaningful storytelling with themes that speak to Nigerian society.

As Nollywood continues to grow, its films are not only profitable but are also shaping the social and cultural conversations within Nigeria and beyond.
