Paris 2024 Olympics: Nigerian Runner Favour Ofili Left Out of 100m Race
Nigerian runner Favour Ofili won’t compete in the 100m race at the current Paris Olympics. She shared this news in several tweets late Tuesday night.
Ofili explained that she was missing out because of mistakes made by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC).
She criticised both organisations for their lack of responsibility and questioned their reliability.
Despite this setback, Ofili still hopes to participate in the 200m race. In her tweets, she expressed her frustration: “I am very disappointed that I won’t be running the 100 meters at these Olympic Games.
I qualified, but the AFN and NOC did not register me. I have been working towards this for four years. For what?”
This isn’t the first time Ofili has faced such issues. She mentioned that similar problems occurred at the last Olympics in Tokyo 2020, where mismanagement by the AFN and NOC resulted in 14 Nigerian athletes, including herself, being unable to compete due to a lack of funding for necessary tests.
