PDP Governors Contest Fubara’s Suspension in Supreme Court

Eleven governors from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have gone to the Supreme Court to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s actions against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. They’re questioning whether the President can legally suspend a state governor or declare emergency control over a state.

This lawsuit was filed on Tuesday and asks the court to clarify the President’s powers over elected state officials.

The governors from Adamawa, Enugu, Osun, Oyo, Bauchi, Akwa Ibom, Plateau, Delta, Taraba, Zamfara, and Bayelsa are all involved in this case, represented by their states’ Attorney Generals.

The main issue they’re bringing up is whether the President has the right under the constitution to replace an elected governor with a sole administrator he appoints, especially during a state of emergency. They’ve brought up several legal questions focusing on this and other powers of the President according to the Nigerian Constitution.
