President Tinubu Dissolves Ministries of Niger Delta and Sports

President Bola Tinubu’s government has announced the dissolution of the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development in a reorganisation aimed at making government operations more efficient.

The announcement came during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, as confirmed by Bayo Ononuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, through his official X account, @aonanuga1956.

In place of the dissolved ministries, a new Ministry of Regional Development will be established to oversee various regional development commissions.

These include the Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and North East Development Commission.

Additionally, the National Sports Commission will take over the functions previously managed by the Ministry of Sports Development. Another notable change is the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, streamlining efforts to boost cultural and economic growth.

The decision to abolish the Niger Delta Ministry follows concerns about overlapping functions with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), which will continue its focus on fostering rapid and sustainable development within the Niger Delta region.

This restructuring is part of ongoing efforts to enhance government efficiency and effectiveness.
