Reps Urges FG to Halt SAMOA Agreement Implementation

Aliyu Madaki, the Deputy Minority Leader along with 88 other representatives, raised concerns during a plenary session about some controversial clauses in the Samoa agreement.

They highlighted that the agreement appears to support LGBT rights, which conflict with existing national laws.

Following this, there has been public opposition to the agreement, prompting calls for a thorough investigation before moving forward.

About the Samoa Agreement

The Samoa Agreement, an international treaty that reportedly contains provisions supporting LGBTQ rights, has sparked intense controversy in Nigeria.

Signed in Samoa on November 15, 2023, the agreement offers a $150 billion incentive to underdeveloped and developing countries.

However, Nigeria, along with several other African nations, declined to sign the pact, objecting to a specific clause that requires the adoption of same-sex relationships.
