Social Media Reacts to Tinubu’s Dismissal of Mele Kyari
President Bola Tinubu has dismissed Mele Kyari, the Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), along with Board Chairman Pius Akinyelure and several board members.
In their place, Tinubu appointed Bashir Ojulari as the new Group CEO and Ahmadu Musa Kida as the non-executive chairman.
In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga on Wednesday, April 2, the president announced a full overhaul of the 11-member board.
As part of this restructuring, all members who were appointed alongside Kyari and Akinyelure in November 2023 have been replaced.
Social Media Reaction
Netizens are weighing in on Mele Kyari’s firing, and their reactions are sparking heated debate online.
@drpenking: This is a step in the right direction. Enough with playing games with our crude oil to keep enriching the far-left fuel-importing mafia.
How can you try to stifle life out of the largest refinery in Africa by selling oil drilled in Nigeria to a Nigerian who intends to refine in Nigeria for use by Nigerians in Dollars, just to frustrate him so the mafia can flourish.
Time for him and his crooked board to cease playing games with the survival of 300 million Nigerians and go play games in their bedroom.
@Makafor: Renewed shege, he will eventually replace all Northern Nigeria candidates with Yoruba candidates. Nice pay back, following Buhari foot step like he promised.
@Victor_Fx_Pro: It’s was long overdue, but I guess is because he has exceeded his retirement period if not they would have retained him still.
I think this is good news; however, I was not expecting any surprise other than a man from Southwest taking over. We just need a country that works for both.

@obidientparody: This is has been long overdue and which have inflicted lots of damages to the nation crude oil assets.
Leaving Mele Kyari as NNPCL GMD to remove fuel subsidy was the greatest error of Tinubu government but I guess he may have wanted to use him for his interests which was why he lasted this long.
A GMD that under his watch was oil cabals assembled, and they took over the control of the number one national assets yet, Tinubu came and instead of dismantling this oil cabals, study it wholly, he removed fuel subsidy hoping to be the new lord of the cabals.
Now, after putting the cart before the horse because of selfish interest, he may have realised that Kyari is serving the interest of other cabals.
Nigerians should brace up for we are into another new oil cabals regime and this time, it is gonna be rough ride from a government that want it all-Emilokan.
