Speed Darlington Released on Bail After Weeks in Custody

Controversial rapper Darlington Achakpo, widely known as Speed Darlington, has been released on bail after spending almost a month in police custody.

His lawyer, Stanley Alieke, shared the news on Instagram, stating, “Apki has been granted bail by the court,” but did not disclose further details.

Darlington was arrested on November 27 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State, following an alleged verbal altercation with Afrofusion star Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy.

Deji Adeyanju, another lawyer representing Darlington, suggested that Burna Boy might have influenced the arrest due to the rapper’s criticism of him over his association with the U.S. rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, who faces allegations of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

Despite the controversy and his arrest, Darlington remained vocal about his intentions to hold Burna Boy accountable for his ties to Diddy. Before being granted bail, there were indications from Adeyanju that Darlington would either be arraigned or released soon.

He expressed optimism about the justice system, stating, “Our FREP application for Speed Darlington has been granted by the court. He is to be arraigned within 48 hours or released. Issues around injustice may take time, but justice will always prevail.”
