Starlink Just Raised Its Prices: But Is It Still Worth It?
Satellite internet provider, Starlink, has announced a price hike, and if you’re one of their customers, you’re probably wondering: is it still worth it?
In a message sent out to users on Tuesday, Starlink revealed that both current and new customers will be affected by the new rates. The standard residential package, which many rely on for home internet, has jumped to ₦75,000.
If you’re using the mobile regional package, also known as “roam unlimited,” expect your bill to go up to ₦167,000. For those who need global coverage with the mobile global package, the price has skyrocketed to ₦717,000.
The new rates are already in effect for new customers, while existing users will feel the impact starting on October 31, 2024.
Why the price increase?
Starlink pointed to the current economic climate, citing “excessive levels of inflation” as the main reason for this adjustment. Like many companies, Starlink is feeling the pinch and claims it needs to raise prices to keep up with inflationary pressures.
According to their statement, the company needs to adjust to stay in line with global financial realities.
While no one enjoys paying more for their internet, Starlink did mention that users are free to cancel their subscriptions at any time without any penalties, which gives some flexibility for those reconsidering their options.
sluggishness of traditional satellite services. For those who live in cities with plenty of internet provider options, though, Starlink might not seem as attractive when compared to fiber or other fast broadband choices.
Is it still worth it?
Here’s the big question, with these new prices, is Starlink still worth it? The answer depends largely on your situation.
For those in remote areas where Starlink is often the only real option for high-speed internet, the price increase may be a tough pill to swallow but still worth paying for uninterrupted, reliable access.
If you’re someone who relies on Starlink for your business, schooling, or other crucial online activities, the quality of service could still make the new rates worthwhile.
On the other hand, if you live in an area with multiple internet options, this price hike might make you reconsider but with a huge price to pay.
