Super Eagles Return to Nigeria: President Tinubu Bestows National Honors on Team Members

President Bola Tinubu has recently honored the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s beloved national football team, with the prestigious national honor of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON). 

This grand gesture took place at the Council Chambers of the State House, following the Super Eagles’ commendable performance at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals. Despite their runner-up finish, the team’s spirit and dedication have been celebrated across the nation, with President Tinubu leading the accolades.

The Super Eagles, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, have once again proven their mettle on the international stage, showcasing the indomitable spirit of Nigerian football. 

The awarding of the MON to each team member is not just a recognition of their efforts at the AFCON but a testament to their role as ambassadors of Nigerian sportsmanship and unity.

Upon their return to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, the Super Eagles were received with open arms by President Tinubu and other top cabinet members at the Aso Rock. Their arrival was a moment of national pride, marking the end of a journey that saw them compete with vigor against the host nation, Côte d’Ivoire, in a bid to clinch the AFCON trophy.

Before the formal conferment of the national honors, the 25-man squad, along with their backroom staff, were treated to a breakfast reception at the Transcorp Hilton. This gathering was not just a celebration of their AFCON journey but also an opportunity for the nation to express its gratitude and appreciation for the team’s efforts. 

Notable players such as Alex Iwobi, Ahmed Musa, Victor Osimhen, and others, were in attendance, embodying the talent and spirit that define the Super Eagles.
