Telegram Introduces Ad Revenue Sharing for Creators in March 2024
In March 2024, the social media platform Telegram is set to revolutionize the way creators monetize their content. With the launch of its ad platform, channel owners will have the opportunity to receive financial rewards for their efforts.
This groundbreaking move was announced by Telegram’s CEO and founder, Pavel Durov, who revealed that channel owners will start receiving 50% of all revenue generated from displaying ads in their channels.
Telegram channels, known for their ability to broadcast public messages to large audiences, generate an impressive one trillion views every month. However, until now, only a mere 10% of these views have been monetized with Telegram Ads, the platform’s promotion tool designed with privacy in mind.
The introduction of the Telegram Ad Platform aims to change this, offering a new revenue stream for content creators.
Durov explained that the ad payments and withdrawals will be fast and secure, thanks to the exclusive use of the TON blockchain. Ads will be sold and revenue shared with channel owners in Toncoin, creating a virtuous circle where content creators can either cash out their earnings or reinvest them in promoting and upgrading their channels.
With this announcement, Telegram is joining the ranks of other social media giants like YouTube and X (formerly Twitter), which already offer ad revenue sharing with users. YouTube provides a 55% share of ad revenue to creators in its Partner Program, while X began offering revenue sharing in July 2023.
Meta is also testing a new payout model for its Ads on Reels monetization program.
Telegram’s move to introduce ad revenue sharing is a significant step forward for the platform, which boasts over 800 million monthly active users worldwide. It not only provides a new way for creators to monetize their content but also strengthens Telegram’s position in the competitive social media landscape.
