The Many Acts of Nollywood Star Zulu Adigwe

Life’s a venture.

Zulu Adigwe didn’t have to be a capitalist to know that while he lived.  The thing is: Life never happened to him–even when he showed sparks of acting as early as seven. An adventurer that he was, Adigwe first took a flyer on other interesting scenes of life and learning.

In Austria, years before he starred in Living Abroad in 2004, Adigwe followed his fancy.  He first studied French and German. Teaching beckoned after finishing his language studies. He chalked and talked for a while. Then medicine fascinated him, and he embraced it, cadavers, scalpel, and all.

When his father died, he ditched medicine, and returned to Nigeria.

Acting now had a thing for him. So he enrolled at the University of Ibadan for theatre arts, and aced it—with first-class honours.

So proper acting began, making his path cross that of the late poet and playwright Ken Saru-Wiwa. Adikwu first starred in the television series Basi and Company Saru-Wiwa produced between 1988 and 1990. A role in Checkmate followed.

From 1999 till 2019, Adigwe featured and starred in 21 works, including Isakabaa, Living Abroad, Living in Bondage: Breaking Free (his last major role), and others.

He acted in Endtime in 1999. Now his time was up April 23. And that’s coming while Nollywood is mourning Junior Pope and others who died in a boat accident.

He’s sure broken free now.
