Pascal Dozie, who started Diamond Bank Plc and was the first chairman of MTN Nigeria, has passed away at the age of 85. His family announced this sad news in a statement released on Tuesday, stating he died early in the morning.
His son, Uzoma Dozie, expressed the family’s deep sadness but also their gratitude for his meaningful life. “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved father, Pascal Gabriel Dozie, on April 8, 2025. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and he was deeply committed to his Catholic faith. He dedicated his life to serving God, his family, and his country,” he said.
Pascal Dozie is survived by his wife, Chinyere, their children, and grandchildren, who all feel blessed to have known him. The family is thankful for the life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind, and they pray that he rests in peace.
About Pascal Dozie
Pascal Dozie was born on April 9, 1939, in Egbu, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. He started his education at Our Lady’s School in Emekuku and later attended the prestigious London School of Economics, where he earned a degree in Economics and a master’s in Administrative Science.
In 1990, he founded Diamond Bank, which later joined with Access Bank. After some time, he handed over the management of the bank to his son, Uzoma.
Besides banking, Pascal Dozie helped start MTN Nigeria, serving as its first chairman. For his significant work in Nigeria’s banking and telecom sectors, he received the prestigious National Award of the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).
