Tinubu Assigns 65 Ambassadors, High Commissioners to Foreign Missions
President Bola Tinubu has approved the deployment of 65 ambassadors-designate and high commissioners to different countries as well as the United Nations.
The announcement was made on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the list includes 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career ambassadors.
All 65 nominees were confirmed by the Senate in December 2025 after appearing before the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
According to Onanuga, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been directed to begin the induction process for the envoys immediately. They are expected to resume duties after their host countries grant agrément, which is the formal approval required before ambassadors can officially take up diplomatic postings.
So far, the Nigerian government has received agrément from the United Kingdom for Aminu Dalhatu, who was posted as High Commissioner, and from France for Ayodele Oke.
The nominations of the remaining 62 envoys have already been sent to their host countries and are awaiting approval.
