Tinubu Makes 3 New Key Appointments in Federal Universities
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved three fresh appointments in Nigerian federal universities.
In a statement released on Wednesday, September 3, by his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president named Engineer Abdurrazaq Abubakar Nakore as the pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing council of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano.
Alongside Nakore’s appointment, Tinubu also approved the selection of two new vice chancellors. Professor Abdullahi Tukur Kodage will serve as the vice chancellor of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano, while Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure was announced as the vice chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State.
Nakore, a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, previously worked as the executive secretary of the Rural Electricity Board in Jigawa State.
On the other hand, Prof. Bunkure, who is currently the vice chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano, is well known for his expertise in science education.
Both institutions located in Kano and Zaria were among the four colleges of education upgraded to full-fledged universities between 2022 and 2023.
According to the law, pro-chancellors will serve for four years, while vice chancellors will hold office for five years.
These appointments are part of President Tinubu’s broader “Renewed Hope” agenda, which continues to shape reforms in the education sector.
