According to reports from Bscholarly and ExamLabs, the top 10 African countries with the strongest education systems are ranked based on workforce skills, educational quality, and accessibility.

1. Seychelles


Seychelles is the first African country to fully achieve UNESCO’s “education for all” goal. Ranked 43rd worldwide, it surpasses countries like Ukraine and the UAE in educational quality, scoring 69.3 points.

Its system emphasizes digital literacy and critical thinking, securing its place as Africa’s top education leader.

2. Tunisia


Tunisia ranks 71st globally with a score of 61.4. The country dedicates 20% of its national budget to education, with impressive rankings in school life expectancy and pupil-to-teacher ratios.

Tunisia’s investment reflects a focus on educational access and quality.

3. Mauritius


Mauritius holds the third spot in Africa with 61 points, ranking 74th globally. Education is compulsory until age 16, and the country is recognized for its high-quality vocational training programs, ranking 47th worldwide in this area.

4. South Africa


With a literacy rate of 94%, South Africa ranks 84th globally and fourth in Africa, with an educational score of 58.4 points.

5. Algeria


Algeria, the second-best in North Africa, ranks fifth on the continent with a score of 57.4 points and a literacy rate of 75%. The country has made notable investments to support educational growth.

6. Botswana


Botswana ranks sixth in Africa with 56.7 points and holds the 92nd position worldwide. With a literacy rate of 88%, Botswana’s education system reflects steady investment in teaching quality and access.

7. Kenya


Kenya ranks seventh in Africa with 55.4 points and is 95th globally. The government invests 17.58% of its budget in education, contributing to a literacy rate of 78.7% and expanding access to learning resources.

8. Cape Verde


Cape Verde ranks eighth in Africa with a global position of 98th and a score of 53.3 points. The nation’s education initiatives have bolstered its educational standing and improved literacy rates.

9. Egypt


Egypt ranks ninth in Africa, with 52.8 points and a global rank of 99. With a literacy rate of 71%, Egypt continues to invest in educational growth to increase literacy and skill levels across the country.

10. Namibia


With a literacy rate of 88.2%, Namibia ranks 10th in Africa and 100th globally, scoring 52.7 points. Namibia’s education system is committed to maintaining high literacy and access rates.
