Top 10 Cheapest States to Live in Nigeria (2025)

With prices going up in many parts of Nigeria, people want to know where they can live without having to spend too much. The National Bureau of Statistics has shared new information about which states have the lowest inflation in April 2025. 

While cities like Lagos and Abuja are known for high living costs, several states offer a lower cost of living without compromising on essential amenities. Based on recent data and reports,

here are the top 10 cheapest states to live in Nigeria this year:

1. Ogun and Adamawa – 20.9%

Both Ogun and Adamawa recorded a headline inflation rate of 20.9% year-on-year.

Ogun saw food inflation at 9.9% year-on-year, with a monthly decrease of 7.1% in food prices and 3.2% in all items.

Adamawa had food inflation at 9.5% year-on-year, with food prices falling by 1.6% monthly, though all items increased by 3.5% monthly.

2. Taraba – 19.9%

Taraba’s headline inflation was 19.9% year-on-year. Food prices rose 20.3% year-on-year, increasing by 1.4% monthly. Overall prices went up by 2.5% month-on-month.

3. Rivers – 19.2%

Rivers State recorded 19.2% inflation year-on-year. Food inflation stood at 18.0% year-on-year with a 1.8% monthly increase, while all items fell by 0.7% monthly.

4. Plateau – 18.9%

Plateau recorded 18.9% inflation year-on-year. Food prices rose sharply by 30.5% year-on-year and increased 11.4% month-on-month. Overall prices rose 1.8% monthly.

5. Oyo – 18.7%

Oyo State’s inflation was 18.7% year-on-year. Food inflation was 21.5% year-on-year but dropped by 7.0% monthly, while all items decreased 6.4% month-on-month.

6. Katsina – 17.6%

Katsina had 17.6% inflation year-on-year. Food prices rose 22.1% year-on-year and increased 6.4% monthly. However, all items dropped by 3.0% month-on-month.

7. Akwa Ibom – 17.4%

Akwa Ibom recorded 17.4% inflation year-on-year. Food inflation stood at 16.4% year-on-year, with a monthly rise of 5.8% in food prices and 6.4% for all items.

8. Kwara – 17.3%

Kwara’s inflation rate was 17.3% year-on-year. Food prices rose 15.8% year-on-year, with monthly increases of 2.8% for food and 3.4% for all items.

9. Cross River – 17.1%

Cross River had 17.1% inflation year-on-year. Food prices were up 14.5% year-on-year and increased 2.2% monthly. Overall prices rose 3.9% month-on-month.

10. Ondo – 13.4%

Ondo State recorded the lowest inflation rate on the list at 13.4% year-on-year. Food inflation was higher at 20.6% year-on-year, with a 5.2% monthly increase in food prices, but all items fell by 3.4% month-on-month.
