Top 5 Renewable Energy startups in Nigeria 2025
The renewable energy startups in Nigeria 2025 ecosystem are gaining momentum as the nation tackles chronic power shortages and advances its climate agenda.
Despite a population exceeding 230 million, only 61.2 per cent of Nigerians had access to electricity in 2023, leaving nearly 90 million without reliable grid power.
In response, government initiatives and private investors are accelerating the development of off-grid solutions, creating fertile ground for innovative companies to scale clean-energy technologies.

Nigeria’s Energy Landscape:
1. Electrification stood at 61.2 per cent overall in 2023, with urban access at 89 per cent versus 53 per cent in rural areas.
2. Under the Renewable Energy Master Plan, Nigeria aims to deploy 2,000 MW of small-hydro, 500 MW of solar PV, 400 MW of biomass, and 40 MW of wind capacity by 2025, thereby raising the national electrification rate to 75 per cent.
3.The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) targeted 10,000 mini-grids by 2023, enough to supply reliable power to 250,000 SMEs and 14 per cent of the population.
4. In March 2025, Nigeria signed a USD 200 million deal with WeLight to install 400 renewable mini-grids and 50 MetroGrids, which are expected to serve 1.5–2 million rural and peri-urban citizens.
5.Through partnerships with eight firms, the REA has facilitated 1,350 mini-grids and 1.6 million solar home systems, delivering 47 MW of clean power and over 340,000 new connections.
Funding Trends for Renewable Energy Startups
In Q1 2025, Nigeria’s tech ecosystem attracted over USD 100 million in venture capital funding, showing investor confidence despite economic headwinds. Cleantech leader Arnergy closed a USD 15 million round that quarter to expand its solar-as-a-service offerings and satellite-based monitoring capabilities.
Top 5 Emerging Renewable Energy Startups in Nigeria
Arnergy
Arnergy has become Nigeria’s foremost solar-as-a-service provider for commercial clients. Having raised USD 15 million in early 2025, it leverages IoT-enabled remote monitoring and predictive maintenance to ensure uptime service levels comparable to those of diesel generators. To date, over 500 businesses, from factories to hotels, report 30–50 per cent reductions in energy costs since switching to Arnergy systems.
Ecotutu
Ecotutu addresses post-harvest losses among farmers by powering cold-storage facilities with solar energy. Its flagship 20-tonne solar cold-room in Lagos’s Mile 12 Market cuts produce spoilage by up to 40 per cent per vendor and employs local youth and women to manage operations, embedding social impact into its business model.
ICE Commercial Power
ICE Commercial Power, a World Economic Forum–recognised spin-out, delivers solar-plus-storage microgrids tailored for clinics, workshops, and agro-processing plants. As one of eight companies contracted by the REA, ICE’s systems boost power availability from an average of four hours per day on grid and generator power to over 22 hours on renewable energy.
Privida Power Limited
Privida Power Limited won a Performance-Based Grant to develop isolated mini-grids in rural Kogi State. Its 2.47 MW network spans 11 communities, adding more than 11,000 new electricity connections and enabling households and MSMEs to access affordable, clean power for the first time.
Astrum Solar
Astrum Solar specialises in turnkey rooftop solar PV installations for residential and light-commercial customers in Lagos and Abuja. Since its inception, Astrum has installed over 2 MW of capacity, bundling financing, installation, and maintenance under single-contract packages that simplify adoption for end-users.
ColdHubs
ColdHubs extends solar refrigeration to small-scale farmers and fishermen through modular, prefabricated cold-storage units. Operating 54 hubs across 22 states, with a total storage capacity of 162 tonnes, ColdHubs employs over 66 trained technicians, increasing farmers’ incomes by an average of 25 per cent thanks to the extended shelf life of perishables.
