U.S. Congressman Riley Moore Warns Nigerian Security Chiefs Over Christian Killings
U.S. Congressman Riley Moore has said he delivered a stern warning to Nigeria’s top security leadership during a recent meeting in Washington, telling them the United States expects “visible, measurable action” to protect Christian communities targeted by extremist violence.
Moore met with National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa Oluyede, and Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun as part of his mandate to investigate Christian persecution globally.
Speaking after the meeting, Moore said he expressed deep concern over what he described as “horrific violence, displacement and killings” affecting Christian populations in several Nigerian states.
According to him, the engagement was “frank, honest and necessary,” particularly in light of persistent attacks in the Middle Belt and North-West.
He said the U.S. government expected immediate steps from Nigerian authorities to improve early-warning systems, intelligence gathering and rapid response in rural communities most affected.
Moore, known for his close alignment with former President Donald Trump, has repeatedly accused the Nigerian government of failing to act decisively against armed groups responsible for sectarian killings. His latest comments reinforce growing international pressure on Abuja to prioritise the protection of vulnerable religious groups.
Nigerian officials have rejected claims of religious persecution, stating that the violence is largely driven by criminality, land disputes and terrorism, not targeted attacks on Christians. However, Moore insisted the pattern of attacks requires urgent intervention.
