Virgil van Dijk Signs New Two-Year Deal with Liverpool
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has signed a new two-year contract with the club, ending months of rumours about his future. The Dutch defender’s old deal was set to finish in 2025, but he has now agreed to stay longer.
Van Dijk, who is 33 years old, joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2018 for £75 million. Since then, he has become one of the most important players in the team. He was named captain in 2023 after Jordan Henderson left the club.
He has played nearly 300 matches for Liverpool and has helped the team win both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Speaking about his new deal, Van Dijk said: “There was no doubt in my mind. This is the best place for me and my family. Someone even called me an adopted Scouser, and that made me proud.”
He also said he feels good physically and mentally, and he’s enjoying football. “Right now, my focus is on Liverpool and helping the team have a successful season,” he added.
Van Dijk is the latest top player to extend his stay at the club, following Mohamed Salah. Liverpool is also expected to make more big moves in the upcoming transfer window.
