Visa Fees Are Non-Refundable – U.S. Embassy

The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has reiterated that visa application fees are non-refundable and cannot be transferred, addressing growing concerns among Nigerians about the high cost of applying for U.S. visas.

In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, the Embassy acknowledged the frustration many applicants feel after paying substantial fees only to have their visa requests denied.

“We hear your concerns regarding U.S. visa application fees. Like most countries, the U.S. visa fees cover the cost of processing the application, regardless of the outcome. While fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, each application is reviewed thoroughly and fairly.

For best results, prepare your application carefully and use the resources on our website,” the statement said.

Social media complaints have highlighted how the process can be financially draining, especially for applicants who are not successful and cannot reuse their payments.

The Embassy clarified that the fees are meant to cover administrative and processing costs, and not to guarantee visa approval.

Prospective travellers are advised to prepare their applications meticulously, follow all instructions, and take advantage of the free guidance available on the Embassy’s website to increase the likelihood of a successful outcome.
