WAFCON Final: Who Has Scored the Most Goals So Far

As the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), is coming to an end, the spotlight is not only on the title-deciding clash between Nigeria and Morocco, but also on the players battling it out for the tournament’s top scorer honour.

At the top of the scoring chart are Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak and Senegal’s Nguenar Ndiaye, both with four goals each. But heading into the final, only one of them will have a chance to go even further.

Chebbak, who has been instrumental in Morocco’s run to the final, will be hoping to add to her tally on Sunday when they take on nine-time champions Nigeria. Ndiaye, meanwhile, saw her tournament end in the knockout stage, meaning her chances of claiming the golden boot rest on Chebbak and others falling short.

Close behind the leading pair is a group of attackers sitting on three goals each. Among them is Chinwendu Ihezuo, whose strong performances have helped power Nigeria’s Super Falcons to another final.

She’s joined by Morocco’s Ibtissam Jraïdi and Zambia’s deadly duo Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji, both known for their sharp finishing.

Further down the list are several players who’ve also made their mark with two goals, including Senegal’s Mama Diop, Ghana’s Alice Kusi, Mali’s Aissata Traoré, and Morocco’s Yasmine Mrabet.

While the final will decide the next African champion, it may also settle the race for the golden boot. With Chebbak and Ihezuo both expected to start, a single goal could tip the scale in their favour.

Whether it’s Morocco’s home support pushing Chebbak forward or Nigeria’s attacking momentum giving Ihezuo the edge, fans can expect not just a battle for the trophy, but also for individual glory.
