What Tinubu Told Yoruba Leaders about Odua Nation Agitators
President Bola Tinubu has dismissed self-determinism in his reaction to Oyo government’s clampdown on the Yoruba Nation jingoists who invaded the state recently.
“They have a price to pay,” Tinubu told a delegation of Afenifere’s leaders at the Villa April 17.
The topmost Yoruba leaders came visiting on the same day the Oyo government began prosecuting the ragtag militants security agencies rounded up days ago. Some of their leaders bolted. Gov Seyi Makinde, however, ordered the demolition of their properties.
“Those who think they can threaten the sovereignty of Nigeria will have themselves to blame,” Tinubu said.
What the Yoruba-socio political group discussed with Tinubu did not feature in the statement his media aide Ajuri Ngelale released later. But the Pa Reuben Fasornati-led Afenifere has always agitated for restructuring of the country.
Its own agitation however stands far apart from the armed rebels’: they want to create a Yoruba nation.
“I am irrevocably committed to the unity of Nigeria and constitutional democracy,” Tinubu told Fasoranti, Oba Olu Falae, and others on the delegation.
The intial Yoruba Nation agitation teed off with street protests and propaganda, and everything simmerred after the DSS arrested its leader Sunday Adeyemo.
