Where Will Jose Mourinho Manage Next? Here’s What You Need to Know

Jose Mourinho is currently managing Fenerbahce in Turkey, with his contract lasting for one more season.

However, he’s already hinted that he might move on after this. Although he has led Fenerbahce to second place in the Turkish Super Lig, his first season there may end without winning any major trophies. It seems like Mourinho is already thinking about what comes next.

Here’s a look at what he has said about his future job:

A Return to England?

Mourinho has hinted that he might return to England after his time at Fenerbahce. In October, after being sent off in Fenerbahce’s Europa League match against Manchester United, he said, “If any club in England from the bottom of the table needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go.”

Although he didn’t name any specific clubs, Leeds United was recently linked with him. While Leeds have backed their current manager Daniel Farke, Mourinho could still be a possibility if the job becomes available next season.

Rangers: Could He Manage There?

Mourinho was asked in March about joining Rangers after their takeover, and he said, “In this moment, no, because I have a job that motivates me and demands loyalty. But why not in the future?”

He spoke highly of the Scottish league, saying, “It’s a league of passion,” and praised both Celtic and Rangers for having big fanbases and high expectations. The idea of managing the intense Old Firm derby between Rangers and Celtic could be something Mourinho would consider in the future.

Mourinho has talked about his connection to Newcastle United due to his past work with Sir Bobby Robson, one of the club’s most important figures. He said, “I’ve always had a bit of an emotional connection with that city and fanbase.”

Although current manager Eddie Howe is safe for now, Mourinho’s name may come up again if the Newcastle job becomes available in the future.

Portugal: Could He Become the National Coach?

Mourinho has been approached by the Portuguese Football Federation in the past. In January 2023, they told him he was their “only choice” to manage the team, but he chose to stay with Roma. He later admitted that he might have made a mistake by not taking the job and said that Portugal could want him again in the future.

Mourinho has also mentioned that he would be open to coaching Portugal during the 2030 World Cup, which will partly be held in Portugal. At 67, he could be a strong candidate to take over the national team in the near future.

Brazil: Could He Be Interested in Coaching There?

Mourinho was asked about the possibility of managing Brazil in January 2024. He said he wasn’t sure if Brazil wanted him but mentioned that he hadn’t been contacted yet. With rumors that Carlo Ancelotti might leave his post as Brazil’s coach, Mourinho could be a contender for the job if Ancelotti chooses a different path.

Chelsea: Could He Return?

Mourinho has a deep connection with Chelsea, a club where he won many titles. In 2023, he hinted at a possible return, saying, “My house will always be 200 meters away from the stadium, so I want to keep listening to the sound of happiness and success.”

While Chelsea is currently managed by Enzo Maresca, who has helped the team perform well recently, Mourinho might still be considered if Chelsea looks for a new manager in the future.
