Why Did Oshiomhole Oppose His Son’s Nomination as Commissioner?

Edo State Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, has shared that former Governor Adams Oshiomhole did not support the idea of his son, Cyril Oshiomhole, becoming the Commissioner for Health.

This discussion came up after Cyril was chosen by the new Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who started his role recently. While speaking on Channels Television, Idahosa responded to claims suggesting that Cyril’s appointment was influenced by his family ties.

Idahosa clarified that the decision to appoint Cyril was based purely on his qualifications and the new governor’s plans for improving healthcare in Edo State, not because he is the son of a former governor.

“Actually, Adams Oshiomhole opposed his son’s appointment because he wanted it to be based on merit and align with the governor’s goals, not because they are related,” Idahosa said.

Idahosa also spoke highly of Cyril’s abilities, noting that he is a well-trained doctor who studied medicine in Nigeria and furthered his education in the United States. He emphasised that Cyril’s background makes him a good fit for the position.

“Just because he is Oshiomhole’s son doesn’t mean he isn’t qualified. He got the job because he deserves it based on his skills,” Idahosa added, stressing that Cyril’s selection was based on merit.
