Why Does West Africa Have So Much Gold?

Why do some countries have more gold than others?

Not every country in West Africa has the same amount of gold. Ghana, for example, is one of the biggest gold producers in the world, with an estimated 1,000 metric tonnes of gold reserves. Mali also has large gold reserves, around 800 metric tonnes. The reason these countries have so much gold is that a big part of their land sits on the West African Craton.

Countries with less gold either have fewer gold-rich rocks or have not explored their land enough to find hidden deposits.
