Why Kylian Mbappe Acquired A Football Club He Never Played For

Real Madrid star forward, Kylian Mbappe, has taken a step in his football career by acquiring a majority stake in the French professional football club, Caen.

At just 25 years old, Mbappe, the top earner at Real Madrid, has agreed to a deal to become the principal owner of the club.

According to a report from Le Parisien, Mbappe will shell out just under €20 million to acquire most of the shares in Caen. Pierre-Antin Capton will retain the remaining shares, valued at €5 million.

Why Acquire The Club?

Many view Kylian Mbappe’s recent acquisition of a majority stake in Caen as a gesture of goodwill towards a club with which he once nearly signed. Back in 2012, Mbappe had a verbal agreement to join Caen, but the club’s relegation thwarted the move as they could no longer afford his signing.

This was a setback, considering Mbappe and Caen had been in discussions for three years. Consequently, he joined Monaco, where he quickly rose to become one of the world’s most sought-after football talents.
