Why Was the APP Secretariat in Rivers Attacked?
The Action Peoples Party (APP) Secretariat in Rivers State was attacked with dynamite on Monday morning. Sources suggest this could be because rumours are circulating that Governor Siminialayi Fubara and his supporters might join the APP.
The attack took place at the Secretariat located in the GRA area of Port Harcourt, adding tension to the state’s ongoing political issues.
The rumours about the Governor’s potential move started after the Secretariat was recently fixed up, which made people think it was getting ready for new members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The speculation became stronger due to issues within the PDP, where former Governor Nyesom Wike and his loyalists are said to control the party.
Sources mentioned that some people are upset because they believe Governor Fubara is dividing his political group and might take them to a new party.
This belief led to the bombing. “After the building was fixed up, many thought the governor and his supporters were looking to join APP because the PDP has been taken over by Wike and his group,” one source said.
Although Governor Fubara has not officially said he will leave the PDP, he has openly criticised the party for not doing enough for the state.
