World War III is Coming, yet Africa Will be Spared – Ben Bruce

Ben Murray-Bruce, a well-known media businessman and former senator, has given a serious warning that the world may be heading for World War III.

In a recent talk with international affairs expert Dane Waters, Murray-Bruce said that growing violence, more countries getting nuclear weapons, and the rise of unpredictable leaders are clear signs that another major war might be impossible to avoid.

Despite his gloomy outlook, Murray-Bruce expressed confidence that Africa, particularly Nigeria, would remain unscathed. He argued that Nigeria’s longstanding commitment to diplomacy, its lack of territorial ambitions, and its decision to forgo nuclear armament would keep violent clashes well away from its borders.

“We’re heading for trouble,” Murray-Bruce cautioned. “With the leaders we have today, World War III is coming, and it will be catastrophic. Yet Africa will be spared. We have no desire to grab more land, we don’t pursue nuclear weapons, and we maintain friendly ties with our neighbours.”

Looking ahead to the aftermath of such a conflict, Murray-Bruce suggested that Nigeria could become a sanctuary for millions displaced by war. He even joked, half in earnest, that the country would roll out the welcome mat for Americans, Israelis, and Iranians alike, ensuring proper visas and humane treatment for all arrivals.

The former Bayelsa East senator laid the blame squarely on reckless governance. He highlighted how easy access to weapons and a growing number of “trigger-happy” heads of state have raised the risk of large-scale conflict. Reflecting on history’s cycle of wars, from the two World Wars to Vietnam, he argued, “It’s leaders, not ordinary people, who start wars.”
