YABATECH Student Killed in Suspected Cult Attack

A student of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) was shot dead in broad daylight on Tuesday in a suspected cult-related attack, reigniting fears over the resurgence of violent campus cultism in Lagos State.

The victim, whose identity was yet to be confirmed as of press time, was reportedly killed near the institution’s back gate shortly after finishing his exams for the day.

Eyewitnesses say he was approached by a group of young men who shot him twice at close range before fleeing the scene, leaving him in a pool of blood.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Command announced that seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack. Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, described the killing as part of an ongoing cult rivalry.

“On Tuesday at about 3 p.m., a distress call was received at Sabo Division that a suspected cultist had been shot dead by rival cult members in the Yaba area,” Hundeyin said in a statement.

“A patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene, where the deceased was found with visible bullet wounds. Four rounds of live ammunition and charms were recovered from his pocket.”

The body has been deposited at the morgue for autopsy as investigations continue.

This tragic incident adds to a growing list of recent cult-related killings across Lagos. Just a day prior, a 16-year-old boy named Mustapha was hit by a stray bullet during a clash between rival groups in the Oyingbo area of Ebute Metta.

Similarly, residents of Idimu were left in shock after discovering the mutilated bodies of two men—one of whom had been beheaded—along Oladun Road on Sunday morning.

Police believe the killings occurred during a cult attack late Saturday night.
