The Institute for Economics and Peace’s latest report, the 2024 Global Peace Index (GPI), sheds light on the most dangerous countries to visit this year, considering factors like conflict, political instability, and social unrest. Here’s a closer look at the top most unsafe countries in the world in 2024.

Yemen

Yemen tops the list with a GPI score of 3.397. The ongoing civil war, which began in 2015, has plunged the country into deep humanitarian crises, with millions suffering from famine and disease. The war has not only devastated Yemen’s infrastructure but has also involved various international actors, complicating peace efforts and prolonging suffering.

Sudan

Sudan, known for its multifaceted conflicts, including the long-standing strife in Darfur, ranks high on the danger list. The year 2024 saw these conflicts displace nearly 2 million people and claim thousands of lives. The unstable political landscape is further complicated by frequent attacks involving government forces and various militia groups, leaving about 14 million people in need of humanitarian aid.

South Sudan
