Good morning! As a new week begins, Nigeria wakes up to a mix of security concerns, political developments, and energy challenges. 

From church attacks and street violence to power outages during Eid celebrations and a major fuel seizure,

1. Lagos Goes Dark During Eid Celebrations 

Large parts of Lagos and its surroundings had no electricity throughout the Eid-el-Fitri holiday and the weekend. Ten electricity distribution companies, including Eko DisCo and Ikeja Electric, received zero power allocation as of Sunday evening, leaving millions in darkness during the festive period.

2. Tinubu Promises to Fight Insecurity 

President Bola Tinubu, speaking in Lagos on Sunday, vowed to step up efforts to tackle rising insecurity across Nigeria. He said the issue was discussed during his recent meetings in the United Kingdom, describing insecurity as “the next phase of our struggle.”

3. Gunmen Attack Church in Kwara State 

Armed men stormed a church in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State on Sunday while worshippers were holding their regular service. The attack took place at an ECWA church in the Omugo community.

4. Three Killed in Katsina Violence 

At least three people were killed and several others injured in a series of violent attacks in Katsina between Friday and Saturday. The clashes, involving suspected gang attacks and community conflicts, hit multiple neighbourhoods, including Tudun Wada and Bakin Gawo, areas locals say have struggled with persistent youth violence.

5. APC Sets Date for National Convention Screening 

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that screening of candidates for national party positions will take place on Tuesday, March 24, ahead of its National Convention on March 27. The screening will be held at Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

6. Peter Obi Visits Kwankwaso in Kano 

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi travelled to Kano on Sunday to meet with ex-Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a political heavyweight. The meeting also brought together Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Senator Seriake Dickson, and activist Naajatu Mohammed.

7. APC Governors Hold Emergency Meeting in Lagos 

Thirty-one APC governors, under the Progressive Governors Forum, met in Lagos on Sunday to discuss key national issues. A major topic on the agenda was how to ensure that the party’s upcoming governorship primaries, scheduled for next month, are conducted peacefully and without controversy.

8. More Arrests Over Delta Festival Sexual Assault 

Police in Delta State have arrested 11 more suspects in connection with the sexual harassment and assault of women during a festival in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area. The total number of people in custody over the incident has now risen to 15.

9. Navy Seizes 44,000 Litres of Illegal Fuel in Rivers State 

The Nigerian Navy intercepted approximately 44,000 litres of suspected illegally refined petroleum products in Rivers State and arrested eight people in connection with the seizure, according to a statement from the Director of Naval Information.

10. Four Drug Suspects Arrested in Akwa Ibom 

Police in Akwa Ibom State have detained four suspected drug dealers in Eket Local Government Area. The state police command confirmed the arrest in an official statement released on Sunday.
