Nigeria Evacuates Citizens From Iran
The Nigerian government has started moving its citizens out of Iran as the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel continues to worsen. The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission said embassy officials in Iran are helping Nigerians who want to leave by escorting them through the Armenian border, where other Nigerian officials are waiting to receive them safely. NiDCOM Chairperson Abike Dabiri-Erewa also said no Nigerian casualties had been recorded in Iran as of the update.
The evacuation is Nigeria’s first clear response to the growing danger facing its citizens. Although officials confirmed that willing evacuees are being assisted out of Iran, they did not state how many Nigerians are currently in the country or how many had already crossed the border.
The development comes as the war entered its 11th day on March 11, 2026. Reports cited by the update said more than 1,300 people had been killed in Iran and over 12,000 injured. In Israel, officials said at least 13 people had been killed and 1,929 wounded by Iranian attacks since the fighting began. The report also said eight U.S. soldiers had been confirmed dead, while Lebanon recorded hundreds of deaths and mass displacement linked to the wider conflict.
As the death toll rises, diplomatic tensions remain high. U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that the war could end soon, though not within the week. Iran rejected that suggestion, insisting that the direction of the war would be decided by the Iranians. Iranian officials also said there could be no ceasefire talks while attacks by the U.S. and Israel were still ongoing.
