NiMet Predicts 3 Days of Cloudiness, Thunderstorms Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast cloudiness, thunderstorms and rainfall across several parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.

In its latest weather outlook released in Abuja, NiMet predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds over the northern region on Monday, with chances of thunderstorms and light rain in parts of Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Kebbi and Kaduna states during the morning hours.

The agency said thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected later in the day over parts of Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba states.

In the North-central region, NiMet forecast thunderstorms with light rain over parts of Plateau, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory in the morning.

It added that moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected over Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa and the FCT in the afternoon and evening.

For the southern region, the agency predicted moderate rain over parts of Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Abia and Lagos states in the morning, with moderate rain expected across the entire region later in the day.

On Tuesday, NiMet said thunderstorms with light rain are likely over parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, Taraba, Kebbi and Katsina states in the northern region during the morning hours.

The agency also predicted thunderstorms later in the afternoon and evening over the region, with moderate rain expected in parts of Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Taraba and Adamawa states.

In the North-central region, thunderstorms with light rain are expected over Niger State and the Federal Capital Territory in the morning, while moderate rain and thunderstorms are likely across the region later in the day.

NiMet also forecast intermittent rain over parts of Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos and Ogun states in the southern region on Tuesday morning, with moderate rain expected across the region later in the day.

For Wednesday, the agency predicted partly cloudy skies over the northern region, with chances of thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Taraba and Kaduna states in the morning.

Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected over Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba states.

In the North-central region, NiMet said sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected in the morning, with chances of thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Plateau and Benue states.

The agency added that thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected across the region in the afternoon and evening.

For the southern region, NiMet forecast cloudy conditions with light rain over parts of Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Lagos states on Wednesday morning.

It said thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected later in the day over parts of Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo, Delta, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos and Ogun states.

NiMet warned that strong winds may come before rainfall in areas where thunderstorms are expected. It advised the public to take precautions, secure loose objects and avoid driving during heavy rain.

The agency also urged residents to disconnect electrical appliances during storms and stay away from tall trees to avoid injuries from falling branches.

NiMet advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from the agency for effective flight planning.

It also urged members of the public to stay updated through its official weather reports.
