5 Tech Skills you should Learn Today

In a few years from now, the world as we know it will have been fully digitalised. It is, therefore, pertinent to upskill yourself with needed tech skills to remain relevant.

This is important as organisations are also tilting all their activities towards this new era.

As such, before learning any skill, consider the ones in demand now and later in the future. This way, you will be indispensable in the tech world.

Technology is naturally a wide area of study, and it evolves quickly. Therefore, it is important that you practice constantly and upskill accordingly to remain relevant.

If you want to delve into this field, here are some tech skills you should consider, according to Eyitayo Ogunmola, the founder of Utiva.

Data science and data analytics

Due to the relevance of data to the business world, one of the most needed tech skills is data science and data analytics.

As the importance of data cannot be overemphasised in the business world, the field is estimated to be worth $19.4 billion in 2026.

Some of the industries using this skill are banking, manufacturing, professional services and the federal government.

Though both deal with data, data analysis is the basic-level skill, while data science is the advanced part.

Product management

Since business is all about selling a particular product or service to people, product management will remain relevant.

Hence, it has no specific job description to it. This will be based on the organisation and the product types – for instance, software, app and physical products.

Though there is no specific way of managing a product, one thing that connects the different methods is the objective of making the product the best out of the lots.

To do this, you will have to consider market demand, surveys and product testing. If the product is technical, you must familiarise yourself with technical jargon.

Programming languages

When it comes to learning tech skills, programming is at the centre as it is connected to every technical field. This involves having the knowledge and understanding of programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, C++ and Python.

The importance of this skill cannot, therefore, be ignored in the IT world.

Cloud computing

The best way of storing data is now in the cloud. As such, the need for the skill is rising as organisations migrate from their conventional way of saving data to cloud solutions.

Instead of migrating later, some businesses also build their products directly in the cloud. This reduces the stress of migrating it. This is why cloud-native architecture skills are in high demand.

From the research conducted by Forrester, the need for global public cloud services will be $482 billion this year. This is 21.7% more than the amount recorded in 2021.

One of the biggest platforms for cloud computing is Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Blockchain

Although blockchain evolved from the digital currency, Bitcoin, blockchain is now here to stay.

Since its discovery, it has been integrated into other uses such as peer-to-peer payments, crowdfunding and file storage, and identity management.

Some of the needed skills are networking, cryptography computing, database design, and programming languages ranging from Java, JavaScript, and C++ to Go, Solidity, and Python.
