The Greatest Player of All Time: Lionel Messi

The best football player in the world right now is certainly Lionel Andes Messi. He played for the Spanish club Barcelona for a while before moving on to the French team Paris Saint-Germain.

The former Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo has been constantly compared to him, but he managed to brush it off by winning seven Ballon d’Or awards, supporting his team as they soundly defeated Manchester United in the 2009 UEFA Champions League finals in Rome, and ultimately leading Argentina to the FIFA World Cup victory in Qatar.

Barcelona has tremendously reaped the benefits of taking a chance with Lionel Messi as he grew maturely on the highest stage.

Even at his home in Argentina, where he is tagged ‘the new Maradona’, he has led his team to win the Copa America Cup 2021.

10 Things You Don’t Know About Lionel Messi

Early life

Messi was raised in Rosario, Argentina, and as a youngster excelled at football.

George Messi, his father, was an assembly-line worker. And his mother Calia Maria, worked as a part-time maid.

At the age of five, Lionel Messi began playing football with Grandoli, a team that his father coached, and eventually transferred to Newell’s Old Boys.

He appeared to have a bright future in football, but at the age of 11, a growth hormone deficit was discovered that necessitated costly therapy.

Even though his parents couldn’t afford it, they chose to relocate to Spain after seeing some hesitant indications that Barcelona recognised Messi’s skill. Messi gave Barca a tryout, and the team was so satisfied that it decided to cover his medical bills.

Following Messi’s ascent from the ranks of youth to the top, Barca is now seeing a tremendous return on its investment. By the time he was 17 years old, he was already a member of the first team.

Although he stood out in a Barcelona squad that included stars like Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto’o, he was forced to miss the successful finale of Barca’s UEFA Champions League run after having his season cut short by a thigh injury.

Playing in Barcelona

Messi, who was 17 at the time, set a record for being the youngest player and goal scorer in La Liga, Spain’s top football league, during the 2004–05 season.

He was strong, balanced, and adaptable on the field despite being only 5 feet 7 inches (1.7 metres) tall and weighing 148 pounds (67 kg). With his left foot, his quickness, and his ability to control the ball precisely, Messi was a natural passer who could easily weave through densely defended areas.

He received Spanish citizenship in 2005, which was received with mixed emotions by Barcelona’s fervently Catalan fans. The Champions League (the European club tournament) was won by Messi and Barcelona the following year.

Lionel Messi’s net worth

According to Forbes’ list of highest-paid athletes, Lionel Messi comes in first place. He makes $130 million annually. Of this, $55 million was earned outside of sports and $75 million was made through athletics.

Lionel Messi is reportedly the richest football player in the world with a net worth of more than $620 million.

In 2021, he moved from Barcelona to Paris St. German, where his pay is $22 million less than it was in Barcelona.

His wages have grown despite this. Through various strategies, including advertising, he has raised his income. Messi promotes a number of well-known brands, such as Lay’s, Pepsi, and Adidas.
