Popular Nightclub Quilox Shut Down by Lagos Lawmaker over Noise Pollution

Quilox, a well-known nightclub on Ozumba Nbadwe Street in Victoria Island, was closed down by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency on Saturday for holding an event without a sound control permit.

The enforcement operation, which was co-conducted by LASEPA and the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit task force, reportedly took place about 4 o’clock.

The club’s owner, Shina Peller, an elected official from Oyo State’s Iseyin, Itesiwajua, Kajola, and Iwajowa federal constituency.

In a same vein, the club was shut down by LASEPA on December 23, 2019 due to noise and traffic issues.

Dolapo Fasawe, the general manager of LASEPA, revealed on Sunday that the club had been shut down once more for breaking the rules on getting a sound control licence.

She claimed that the organisation had received numerous distress calls from neighbors who were worried about the purported environmental nuisance the club was causing, along with video footage.

“To avert situations like this, we recently held a stakeholders’ parley with the owners and chief executive officers of night clubs in the state to address the issue of noise pollution during the festive period. The state, in its magnanimity, compassionately increased the decibels to accommodate leisure and hospitality business interest,” said Fasawe.

“We urged them to apply for sound control permits to enable us to reach out and notify the host community of the intended programme and further deploy our officials to the venue for proper monitoring and prevention of excessive noise pollution,” she added.

Fasawe pointed out that the club neglected an invitation that was issued to Quilox management, just like it was to every other shareholder.
