President Tinubu Launches Probe into Ongoing Maritime Accidents in Niger and Adamawa States

President Bola Tinubu has mandated a thorough inquiry into the frequent occurrences of boat accidents across the nation. In light of two devastating boat tragedies in Adamawa and Niger states that resulted in numerous fatalities, the president’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, announced on Tuesday that maritime safety agencies have been directed to investigate the matter.

A boat overturning in Gbajibo, located in the Mokwa region of Niger, led to the tragic loss of at least 24 lives this past Sunday. This incident came on the heels of another boat accident at Njuwa Lake in Rugange village, within Adamawa’s Yola South LGA, where eight individuals lost their lives and seven are still unaccounted for.

Tinubu’s reactions to the boat accident

President Tinubu expressed his deepest sympathies to the families who lost loved ones and wished a quick recovery to those injured in these unfortunate events.

In a statement, the President has instructed a multi-agency collaboration involving law enforcement and maritime safety authorities to unearth the underlying causes of these preventable maritime tragedies. President Tinubu emphasizes his dedication to ensuring accountability within government agencies for any failures in regulation or safety.

The statement reads “The President directs various government agencies, including law enforcement, maritime safety, and transportation safety authorities to collaborate closely in identifying the root causes of these unfortunate and preventable disasters.

He has also called for a thorough evaluation of existing safety protocols and for strict enforcement of current boating laws in the country to mitigate the risks of boat accidents
