5 Big Brother Couples That had a Controversial Breakup

Breakups in the Big Brother house often feel scripted, but these couples showed us how dramatic, emotional, and controversial reality love can get once the cameras are off.

From infidelity rumors and public shame to clashing personalities and social media fallout, each split had its own brand of chaos. Let’s break it down, starting with the most explosive: Liquorose & Emmanuel.

Liquorose & Emmanuel

Big Brother Naija Season 6 “Emmarose” became one of the most adored fan ships in the Shine Ya Eye house. After the show, things hit a rough patch. During the reunion, Liquorose claimed she caught Emmanuel with another girl in Dubai, music was on, lights were off, the bed was “rough,” and the girl even had a mask on.

Emmanuel denied cheating, saying the visitor was an old friend who came to chat. But by mid-2022, they confirmed the relationship was over, Liquorose said “it’s done… it comes with disrespect,” and Emmanuel agreed, calling the dynamic impossible.

Their rocky fallout featured social media unfollows, haunting reunion drama, and lingering questions about emotional betrayal and boundaries.

Vee & Neo Akpofure

Their relationship began in the Lockdown season, causing excitement among fans especially because Neo is Venita Akpofure’s cousin.

After the show, Vee publicly called out Venita, claiming she had sabotaged the relationship with “bad energy”.

Despite Neo staying relatively quiet, Vee had strong words: “Mind your f***ing business,” telling fans not to pry into their personal lives

Mercy Eke & Ike Onyema

Mercy Eke (BBNaija Season 4 winner) and Ike Onyema became fan favorites as the “Mercy & Ike” couple. They even had a reality TV spin-off. But by April 2021, Mercy bluntly confirmed the end: “Break‑up happens; we are done… it’s not a publicity stunt… ship sank a long time ago.”

Ike later revealed that relentless social media buzz worsened things: a million opinions took a toll. He admitted, “This one… wasn’t it… people have a million opinions.”

Takeaway: A classic case of fame-propelled love gone cold under public scrutiny and pressure.

Zion & Chinwe

Zion & Chinwe from BBNaija Season 9 made headlines again at the June 24, 2025 reunion. Zion declared: “I basically ended things… we were moving in different places,” claiming misaligned life goals.

Chinwe fired back accusing him of lying, recounting how he ghosted her, goes clubbing the night before she left, shuts off his phone, then claims he couldn’t get a ride but drove a friend’s car past her home.

The drama continued with fresh accusations: Zion alleged that Chinwe “disrespected me and my people” and even had same-gender relationships, claiming she also financially shamed him and ghosted after collecting money.

Groovy & Phyna

Phyna and Groovy, the “Level Up” romance from Season 7, burst fans’ bubbles in April 2023. Phyna stated: “I and Groovy are not in a relationship. We were never dating, we were playing a game… if it’s not working I’ll focus on work.”

Later, Groovy clarified in November 2023: no infidelity just “irreconcilable differences and divergent life aspirations.” Communication broke down completely post-show
