7 Things to Know About Eric Chelle, the New Super Eagles Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has recently appointed Eric Chelle as the new head coach for the Super Eagles, aiming to improve the team’s performance. 

As the team looks forward to upcoming games and challenges, it’s good to know more about the new coach leading them. 

Here are 7 important things to know about Eric Chelle 

1. Successful Run with Mali at AFCON 2023 

Eric Chelle coached the Mali national team during the African Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire. He led them to the quarter-finals, a big achievement, although they were eventually beaten by the host nation.

2. Emotional After a Big Game 

Chelle’s emotional reaction after Mali’s loss in the quarter-finals showed how much he cares. He was visibly upset, needing help from his team, which showed his strong dedication.

3. Experienced Football Coach 

Before coaching Mali, Chelle managed several smaller clubs in France, such as GS Consolat, FC Martigues, and Boulogne. These jobs helped him develop his coaching abilities.

4. Played Football Professionally 

Chelle played football professionally but wasn’t very famous. He played for the Mali national team and several clubs in France. This playing experience helped him in his coaching career.

5. Tasked with a Big Challenge 

Chelle’s main job now is to help the Super Eagles qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Nigeria is currently not in a great position in their qualifying group, having not won in their first four matches.

6. Important First Matches 

Chelle will start his role with important matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March. These games are crucial if Nigeria wants to improve its chances of going to the World Cup.
