Abiodun commends DSS and Police over kidnap rescue

Governor Dapo Abiodun has commended the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force following the successful rescue of kidnap victims in Ogun State.

The Governor expressed satisfaction with the tactical precision shown by the security agencies and issued a warning to criminal elements, stating that Ogun State would not serve as a sanctuary for kidnappers or other lawbreakers.

During the commendation, Abiodun specifically praised the DSS Director-General for the provision of critical intelligence and the deployment of sophisticated security equipment. This technical support was central to the successful tracking and location of the kidnappers during the recent operation.

The Governor’s remarks, made in response to the rescue of kidnap victims, come as part of an ongoing effort to bolster security within the state and its surrounding corridors.

Abiodun noted that the use of advanced technology and real-time intelligence is essential for dismantling the networks used by modern criminal syndicates. He stated that the collaboration between the state government and federal security apparatuses is working to reduce the incidence of abductions.

Strengthening security collaboration in Ogun State

The successful rescue operation serves as a blueprint for intelligence-led policing in the region. By leveraging specialised equipment, security agencies were able to narrow the search area and execute the rescue with minimal risk to the victims. Abiodun stated that the state government would continue to support these federal agencies to ensure that criminals find no refuge within Ogun borders.

Ogun State, which serves as a vital industrial and transit hub connecting Lagos to the rest of the country, faces unique security challenges. Frequent security breaches in the South-West region often impact the ease of movement and the safety of businesses operating in the corridor. The administration’s current focus is to create an environment where commerce and movement can occur without the threat of abduction.

Security experts have frequently called for improved technical capabilities within the Nigerian police and intelligence services to combat the evolving tactics of kidnappers. The recent success in Ogun is a move towards this technical capacity building, shifting away from traditional patrol methods to more targeted, data-driven operations.

The state government is expected to further engage with federal security chiefs to ensure that intelligence sharing remains seamless. While the specific details of the criminal suspects involved in the recent kidnapping remain part of active investigations, the administration has maintained its stance of zero tolerance for criminal activities.
