Abiodun calls for unity as new Alaperu of Iperu-Remo ascends

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has congratulated the new Alaperu of Iperu-Remo, Oba Taiwo Adenaike Ogunbona, Fibigbuwa IV, following his ascension to the throne.

The Governor urged the new traditional ruler, who formally took up his duties on 17 October 2026, to prioritise peace, unity, and inclusive development within the ancient kingdom.

In a message shared following the installation of the new monarch, Abiodun emphasised the importance of the Alaperu’s role in maintaining social cohesion and driving progress in the Iperu-Remo community.

Traditional institutions and regional development

The installation of Oba Ogunbona marks a significant transition for the Iperu-Remo kingdom. In Ogun State, traditional rulers serve as vital intermediaries between the state government and the grassroots, playing a crucial role in security management and the implementation of local development projects.

Governor Abiodun’s call for inclusive development suggests an expectation that the new Alaperu will work in tandem with the state administration to attract investment and improve infrastructure in the Remo area. The administration in Abeokuta has frequently highlighted that the cooperation of the Council of Obas is essential for the success of community-led initiatives and the maintenance of law and order.

By advocating for peace and unity, the Governor is reinforcing the necessity of a stable environment to facilitate economic growth. The Iperu-Remo kingdom, which holds deep historical significance in the state, relies on its traditional leadership to navigate socio-economic shifts and mediate local interests.

As Oba Ogunbona begins his reign, the community is expected to look towards his leadership to navigate the evolving socio-political landscape of Ogun State. The effectiveness of his tenure will likely be measured by his ability to foster cooperation between residents and his success in collaborating with the state government on pressing developmental priorities.
