Abuja kidnappers murder 14-year-old girl after N16.2m ransom payment

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of 14-year-old Oluwadamilola Adedayo in Abuja. The teenager was killed shortly after her family paid a ransom of N16.2 million to her abductors.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Godfrey, confirmed that the young girl was murdered because she resisted an attempt by her captors to sexually molest her. The incident has triggered renewed security concerns within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The suspects are currently in custody as the police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abduction, the ransom transaction, and the subsequent killing of the minor.

Police investigation into Abuja kidnapping and murder

According to the police, the victim’s family had complied with the financial demands of the kidnappers by providing the N16.2 million. However, the payment failed to secure her safe release. Instead, the captors took her life during the period she was being held in captivity.

The police stated that the brutal killing was a direct result of the girl’s resistance to sexual assault by the gang members. This development was confirmed following detailed investigations into the abduction and ransom payment.

The arrest of the suspects followed intensive tracking operations conducted by the FCT police command. While the specific identities of the suspects have not yet been formally released, the police have assured the public that the perpetrators will face prosecution.

The murder of Oluwadamilola Adedayo follows a trend of kidnapping-for-ransom incidents targeting residents of the Abuja metropolis. Despite various security deployments, criminal syndicates continue to operate within the FCT, often targeting families for high-value ransom demands.

Security analysts have noted that the killing of victims even after ransom is paid indicates a dangerous escalation in the criminality of kidnapping gangs in the region. The FCT police command is expected to present the suspects in court once the investigation is concluded.
