Senator Monday Okpebholo has recently emerged as the governor-elect of Edo State, following the highly anticipated governorship election held on Saturday. On Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially announced him as the winner, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC) in what turned out to be a closely contested race.
With 291,667 votes, Okpebholo claimed victory, winning 11 out of the 18 Local Government Areas in Edo State. His closest rival, Asue Ighodalo from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), garnered 247,274 votes and won in seven Local Government Areas, while Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party came in third place with 22,761 votes.

A glimpse into Monday Okpebholo’s life
Born on August 29, 1970, Monday Okpebholo hails from Udomi, a community in Uwessan-Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
His father, the late Chief Peter Okpebholo, was from Udomi, while his mother, Mrs. Okpebholo, came from Ikekiala in Eguare-Uromi, Esan North East LGA.
From a young age, Okpebholo was exposed to the values of hard work and education. He attended Udomi Community Primary School, then proceeded to Ujabhole Community Secondary School, both located in his hometown of Uwessan-Irrua.
His thirst for knowledge led him to pursue higher education at the University of Abuja, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. He later obtained a Master’s degree in Policy and Leadership Studies from the same institution, solidifying his academic and leadership background.
How Monday Okpebholo became a political star
Monday Okpebholo’s political journey has been nothing short of remarkable. In February 2023, he made history by winning the Edo Central Senatorial District seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
