Amani Health promotes resilience at Dream Big 5.0 for children

Amani Health has concluded the fifth edition of its “Dream Big” initiative, an event designed to encourage children to pursue ambitious life goals regardless of their circumstances.

The programme, known as Dream Big 5.0: Amani Health challenges children to dream beyond limitations, focused on teaching young participants the importance of psychological resilience, confidence, and the role of parental support in achieving long-term success.

During the sessions, speakers provided a realistic outlook on the path to achievement, telling children, “You will fail. You’ll start up again.” This message was intended to de-stigmatise failure and prepare the youth for the inevitable setbacks encountered in pursuit of their ambitions.

The event included practical sessions such as vision boarding, where children used various materials to visually represent their future aspirations. This activity aimed to help participants translate abstract thoughts into concrete, tangible goals, making the concept of “dreaming big” feel more achievable.

Cultivating resilience and parental involvement

A central theme of the 5.0 edition was the necessity of a strong support system. Organisers emphasised that while individual confidence is vital, the encouragement and stability provided by parents are crucial components in helping children navigate the complexities of growth and achievement.

The vision boarding sessions provided a hands-on method for children to identify their strengths and interests. By grounding their aspirations in a visual format, the participants were able to engage more deeply with their personal development.

The emphasis on failure was particularly notable. Rather than offering purely optimistic platitudes, the facilitators addressed the reality of setbacks. The instruction that children would eventually encounter failure, but must have the capacity to “start up again,” is a pedagogical approach designed to build grit—a trait increasingly recognised by developmental experts as a key predictor of success in competitive environments.

By focusing on these emotional and psychological foundations, Amani Health aims to equip the next generation with the mental tools required to overcome socio-economic and personal hurdles. The initiative moves beyond traditional education to address the soft skills and emotional intelligence that many experts argue are essential for future leadership.

Amani Health is expected to continue its series of developmental programmes aimed at youth empowerment and health awareness across the country.
