Amnesty International Nigeria has alleged that the Kano State Government is intensifying its crackdown on individuals who express dissenting views against Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The human rights organisation stated that several citizens have been subjected to arrest, detention, threats and intimidation following comments or social media posts critical of the state administration. According to the statement released on Wednesday, these actions are creating an environment that suppresses free expression and limits the ability of citizens to hold their leaders accountable.
The allegations suggest that the state’s security and administrative apparatus are being used to target those who use digital platforms to voice grievances. Amnesty International expressed concern that such tactics could have a chilling effect on public discourse within the state.

The organisation noted that the crackdown appears to specifically target social media users, suggesting a pattern of monitoring online sentiment to identify and penalise dissenters.
